Photographer Interview!

Hello everyone!
We have been in contact with Hillary Glaze of Hillary Glaze Photography based in the Oklahoma City area.  She was kind enough to answer a few common questions couples have about wedding photography.  Check out her amazing work at her website here! http://www.hillaryglazephotography.com/

Photos can capture the emotions of your wedding day.

~ How long before the wedding day should the couple have thier photographer booked?Booking your photographer should be one of the first things you do in planning your wedding. Most photographers are booked about nine months to a year out.

~What is your most popular service package and why do you think that is?Our most popular package is our second option. It includes an engagement or bridal session, a disc of all of the images with a photo release, a print package and full wedding day coverage. I think it is the most popular because it is allows the bride to get what she really wants (the images on disc as well as prints) without having an outrageous price.
Also, the peace of mind knowing the photographers will be there until you leave the reception without an added fee is priceless.

~ What are some different types of photography and why did you decide on your style? There are plenty of different types out there. You have really formal, black and white specialists, really funky/trendy ones, photo-journalistic are just to name a few. I think a photographer's style is more based on the photographer themselves. What interests you as a photographer instead of which category will you fit into.
If you were to label me, I would say I'm more prone to the photo-journalistic style without being too trendy. I really want to capture the day from start to finish while keeping a classic look.

Finding a photographer with a "photo-journalistic style" will allow for all the details of your day to be captured.

~What is the average price you have seen couples spend on their wedding photography? The average price couples spend with us is $2,100 - $2,500.

~ Do you recommend doing portraits before the ceremony?ABSOLUTELY!!!!!! I cannot express the difference a "first look" makes on the entire wedding day. The couple is able to have a private time together where they can share all of their thoughts on the day with one another. It also helps to keep the stress level down after the ceremony. Most couples (regardless of what the say before hand) are in a hurry to get to the reception and miss out on taking relaxed portraits together.
If you really don't want to see each other, talk with your photographer about doing a "day after" session the day following your wedding.

~ How much time should a couple allow for photos on their wedding day?
This ranges depending on the size of the bridal party as well as the size of families. Typically an hour and a half is plenty of time for the "formal" shots of the bride and groom, bridal party and families.

Allowing plenty of time for photography on the wedding day can alleviate your stress and give your photographer the freedom for creativity.

~ How long after the wedding day can a couple expect to receive their photos? Our goal is to have the proofing gallery available two to three weeks after the ceremony.

~ Do you have any other advice for couples looking for a photographer?Photography and video are the only aspects of your wedding day that last after the fact. Find a photographer that you feel comfortable with as well as someone that captures your style and fits into your budget.

~ If the couple is on a tight budget, how can they save without compromising the quality of thier wedding photos? One option is to get the smallest package from a photographer that you love. You don't want to end up with 2,500 photos with a disc of photos you hate just because it cheapest person you found. Most photographers will also work with your budget. You can typically exchange items out of a package that you don't want or need to help with the pricing.
